OUR RIGHTS

Have you ever met someone who told you their beliefs and ideas? It is nice to hear them. The issue is when their beliefs are negative or attack a social group. I personally have seen and met people who go around saying nothing but negative stuff towards different social groups. Racism, homophobia, and many other negative things are happening right now. A lot of people think all those social issues are over, but I have experienced many myself, from people calling me “fag” to people calling me an “anchor baby”. The worst thing is that even ¨politicians¨ would dare to say such things, and, even worse, there are many people who believe them.

I believe we all have the right of freedom of speech. The right to have, and give our opinions, ideas, and beliefs, to say what we think and feel, because what makes America unique, is the freedom and equality it gives to its people.

The problem is when people take advantage of these rights to insult a social group or a specific person. Some people even think they are doing the right thing by acting that way. Sometimes we forget that everyone has feelings, that the same way we get insulted someone else could get insulted by us. The same way we feel sad, someone else will also feel sad. We all forget that we are not the center of the universe. There are more people in this world and they are as important as we are.

I believe that we can do, say, and be whatever we want as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone. We might not care about other people when we try to get something, but just as we don’t care, they won’t either.

What is the solution to all these big issues? It isn’t to stay quiet and not being able to say what we think. Tolerance is the answer. If we could all tolerate and accept that there will always be many opinions and different people, if we could all respect and tolerate each other, there wouldn’t be so much hate and we could keep on going towards a better future everyone.
